Solution:

Given,
Square path of side =15 cm
Side of each brick=4 cm
To find no. of bricks to be laid in a square path of side 15 cm, first, we have to find the area of square path and area of each brick.
Area of square path=15 cm × 15 cm
Area of each brick=4 cm × 4 cm
Therefore, number of bricks=Area of path ÷ area of each brick
=(15 × 15) ÷ (4 × 4)
= 225 ÷ 16
=14
Hence, 14 bricks are to be laid in a square path of side 15 cm.


Example 2.
Find the number of bricks to be laid in a square path of side 50 cm, if the side of each brick is 5 cm?

Solution:

Given,
Square path of side =50 cm
Side of each brick=5 cm
To find no. of bricks to be laid in a square path of side 50 cm, first, we have to find the area of square path and area of each brick.
Area of square path=50 cm × 50 cm
Area of each brick=5 cm × 5 cm
Therefore, number of bricks=Area of path ÷ area of each brick
=(50 × 50) ÷ (5 × 5)
= 2500 ÷ 25
=100
Hence, 100 bricks are to be laid in a square path of side 15 cm.


Example 3.
How many bricks of 30 cm by 20 cm will be needed to make the floor of a room 50 m long and 40 m wide?

Solution:

Area of the floor of a room=50 m × 40 m
=2000 sq m
Area of bricks=30 cm × 20 cm
=3/10 m × 1/5 m
=3/50 sq m
Therefore, the number of bricks required=( 2000 ÷ 3/50)
= 33333
Hence,33333 bricks are required to make the floor of a room.


Example 4.
How many bricks of 40 cm by 30 cm will be needed to make the floor of a room 30 m long and 20 m wide?

Solution:

Area of the floor of a room=30 m × 20 m
=600sq m
Area of bricks=40 cm ×30 cm
=2/5 m × 3/10 m
=3/25 sq m
Therefore, the number of bricks required=( 600 ÷ 3/25)
= 5000
Hence,5000 bricks are required to make the floor of a room.

Example 5.
How many square tiles of side 30 cm will be required to pave a footpath which is 3m wide and surrounds a rectangular plot 70 m by 40 m?

Solution:

Given,
Side of square tile=30 cm
Footpath width=3 m
rectangular plot=70 m by 40 m
Area of the rectangular plot=70 m × 40 m
=2800 sq m
The length of the outer rectangle will be 70 +3+3=76
The breadth of the outer rectangle will be 40 +3 +3=46
Now the area of the outer rectangle will be 76 × 46=3496
Area of footpath=Area of an outer rectangular plot-Area of an inner rectangular plot
=3496-2800=696 sq m
Area of square tile=30 × 30=900 sq cm
=900/100 × 100=0.09 sq m
No. of tiles required=Area of footpath/area of square tile
=696/0.09=7733
Hence, 7733 tiles are required to pave a footpath.


Example 6.
How many tiles each area 500 cm squared, will need to pave a footpath that is 2m wide and surrounds a grass plot 20 m long and 15 m wide?

Solution:

Given,
The Length of the plot=20 m
The breadth of the plot=15 m
Area of the rectangular plot=20 m × 15 m
=300 sq m
Length of outside rectangle=20+2+2=24 m
breadth of outside rectangle=15+2+2=19 m
Area of outside rectangle=24 ×19=456 sq m
Area of footpath=Area of outside rectangle-Area of inside rectangle
=456-300=156 sq m=1560000 sq m
Area of square tile=500 cm
No. of tiles=Area of footpath/Area of square tile
=1560000/500=3120
Hence, 3120 tiles are required.


Example 7.
A room 40 cm long and 30 cm wide is to be paved with square tiles of side 10 cm. Find the number of square tiles required to cover the floor?

Solution:

Given,
The Length of the room=40 cm
The breadth of the room=30 cm
Area of the room=40 × 30=1200 sq cm
Area of 1 tile=10 × 10=100 sq cm
No. of tiles required=1200/100=12
Hence, 12 square tiles are required to cover the room.


Example 8.
How many bricks are required to lay a path of 150 m long and 5.4 m broad if a brick is 26 cm long and 18 cm wide?

Solution:

Given,
The length of the path=150 m=15000 cm
The breadth of the path=5.4 m=540 cm
Area of path=15000 × 540=8100000 sq cm
Length of the brick=26 cm
The breadth of the brick=18 cm
Area of the brick=26 × 18=468 sq cm
Number of bricks used=Area of path/Area of the brick
=8100000/468=17307
Hence, 17307 bricks are required to lay a path.


Example 9.
A floor 30 cm long and 20 cm wide is to be covered with square tiles of side 5 cm. Find the number of square tiles required to cover the floor?

Solution:

Given,
The Length of the floor=30 cm
The breadth of the floor=20 cm
Area of the floor=30 × 20=600 sq cm
Area of 1 tile=5 × 5=25 sq cm
No. of tiles required=600/25=24
Hence, 24 square tiles are required to cover the floor.


Example 10.
How many bricks are required to lay a path of 280 m long and 8.4 m broad if a brick is 12 cm long and 10 cm wide?

Solution:

Given,
The length of the path=280 m=28000 cm
The breadth of the path=8.4 m=840 cm
Area of path=28000 × 840=23520000 sq cm
Length of the brick=12cm
The breadth of the brick=10 cm
Area of the brick=12 × 10=120 sq cm
Number of bricks used=Area of path/Area of the brick
=23520000/120=17307
Hence, 196000 bricks are required to lay a path.
