Problems on Subtraction of Decimal Fractions | Subtracting Decimal Fractions Problems

This topic deals with Problems on the Subtraction of decimal fractions. We have already learned how to perform Subtraction of Decimal Fractions in our earlier articles. In order to perform subtraction on decimal fractions, we would first change the set of decimal numbers into like decimals and arrange them in proper columns with greater numbers within the first row and smaller numbers within the second row and the decimal point in one vertical line.

Then the subtraction is performed ignoring the decimal point and at the end after the result is obtained the decimal point is placed within the proper location. 5th Grade Math Students will get complete knowledge on subtracting decimal fractions and how to solve related questions.

Questions on Subtraction of Decimal Fractions

Problem 1:
The sum of two decimal numbers is 84.6 and one number is 3.2 find the other number?

Solution:
Given,
The sum value of the decimal numbers is 84.6
One number value is 3.2
Now, we will find the other number value. Using the subtraction method, we will get the value.
So, the other number value is,
84.6 – 3.2 = 81.4
Therefore, the other number is 81.4

Problem 2:
A tank contains 64.34 litres of water. If john uses 45.12 litres of water to wash his car, then how much water is left in the tank?

Solution:
Given the data,
The total capacity of the tank = 64.34 litres
The amount of water used by john to wash the car = 45.12 litres
We have to find the amount of water left in the tank using the subtraction rule.
Thus, the left water in the tank is,
64.34 – 45.12 = 19.22 litres
So, the amount of water left in the tank is 19.22 litres.

Problem 3:
Subtract the decimal 25.21 from 52.32 and Write the final decimal value?

Solution:
The given decimal values are 52.32, and 25.21.
Using the subtraction method, we have to find the final decimal value.
Subtraction means removing or minus one value from another value, we get some final value that is the resultant value.
Now, perform the subtraction operation we will get the value,
52.32 – 25.21 = 27.11
The final decimal value of given values is 27.11

Problem 4:
Find the decimal value of 342.25 – 321.12?

Solution:
In the given values, in between the decimal values minus sign will be present.
Now, we have to find the value using the subtraction law.
The below figure shows how to perform decimal subtraction,

After performing the subtraction operation, the final value is 21.13.

Problem 5:
Find the difference value of 789.17 and 657.2?

Solution:
First, write the larger number 786.17 on the top and the smaller number 657.28 on the below with the decimals lined up.
Next, add a zero to the number 657.2 so that the numbers have the same length.
Subtract normally similar to ordinary numbers, remember to place the decimal point within the answer.

Hence, By subtracting 657.2 from 789.17 we get 131.97 as the difference.

Problem 6:
Subtract 0.98 from 4.9 and write the difference value?

Solution:
Given the values,
First, write the larger number 4.9 on the top and the smaller number 0.98 on the below with the decimals lined up.
Next, add a zero to the number 4.9 so that the numbers have the same length.
Subtract normally similar to ordinary numbers, remember to place the decimal point within the answer.

Therefore, after subtracting 0.98 from 4.90 the difference value is 3.92

Problem 7:
The sum of three decimal numbers is 124.6 and one number is 30.2 and the other number value is 20.3. find the third number?

Solution:
As given in the question,
The sum value of the three decimal numbers is 124.6
One number value is 30.2
The other number value is 20.3
Now, we will find the third number value. Using the subtraction method, we will get the value.
So, the third number value is,
124.6 – 30.2 – 20.3 = 74.1
Therefore, the third decimal number is 74.1

Problem 8:
A barrel has a 46.27 litres capacity. If Suma used 15.16 litres how much water is left in the barrel.

Solution:
Given the data,
The total capacity of the barrel is 46.27 litres.
The amount of water used by Suma is 15.16 litres.
Now, we will find the amount of water left in the barrel using the subtraction method.
So, the given numbers are,
46.27 – 15.16 = 31.11 litres.
Therefore, the amount of water left in the barrel is 31.11 litres.

Problem 9:
Find the final value of the below figure,

Solution:
Given the values are 76.007 and 64.003
In between the numbers, the minus (-) sign will be present. It means subtraction.
So, the below figure shows how to perform subtraction operation,

Therefore, the given figure value is 12.004.

Problem 10:
Find the value of 116.34 – 100.22?

Solution:
As given in the question, the values are 116.34 and 100.22
Now, we have to find the value using the subtraction law.
So, after performing subtraction the value is,
116.34 – 100.22 = 16.12
Therefore, the decimal value of given numbers is 16.12.
