I. Add the following Integers
1. + 68 and + 28
2. +53 and (-20)
3. -82 and -28
4. (- 42) and +10
5. (-15) and (-23)
6. -74 and -30
7. +96 and (-28)
8. -10 and (-10)

Solution:

1. Add two positive integers 68,28.
By adding the two integers we get 96.
2. Add the integers +53 and -20.
= +53+(-20)
= +53+-20
Here + sign is multiplied by -.The result is -.
= +53-20
Subtract 20 from 53.
= 33
Therefore, By adding +53 and -20 we will get 33.
3. Add the integers -82 and -28.
Here the signs of the two integers are negative. Just add the numbers and the result is negative.
=-82-28
=-110
Therefore, By adding -82 and -28 we will get -110.
4. Here there are two types of numbers. i.e. negative and positive.
=-42 + 10
Subtract the numbers. Here 42 is the large number and the sign is negative. So the result will be negative.
=-32
Therefore, By adding -42 and +10 we will get -32.
5. Here there are two negative numbers.
Add the negative numbers and the result will be negative.
=(-15) + (-23)
=-15-23
=-38
Therefore, By adding -15 and -23 we will get -38.
6. Here there are two negative numbers.
Add the negative numbers and the result will be negative.
=-74+ -30
=-74-30
=-104
Therefore, By adding -74 and -30 we will get -104.
7. Here one number is positive and the other number is negative.
So subtract the numbers.
=+96-28
=68
Therefore, By adding +96 and -28 we will get 68.
8. Here two numbers are negative.
Add the numbers and the result is negative.
=-10 and (-10)
=-10 and -10
=-20
Therefore, By adding -10 and -10 we will get -20.

II. Add the following
1. 253 + 120
2. +115 + (-50)
3. (- 320) + 18
4. -20 + (-30)
5. -410 + -200

Solution:

1. Add two positive numbers.
=253+120
=373
2. Here one number is positive and the other number is negative.
So subtract the numbers.
=+115 +(- 50)
115 is a large number. So the result will be positive.
=65
3. Here one number is negative and the other number is positive.
So subtract the numbers.
=(-320)+(18)
320 is a large number. So the result will be negative.
=-302
4. Here two numbers are negative numbers.
Add the numbers and the result is negative.
=-50
5. Here two numbers are negative numbers.
Add the numbers and the result is negative.
=-610

III. Find the value of the following
1. 8 + 5 + (-3) + (-5) + 1
2.  23 + 35+ (-10) – 46
3.  (-15) + (-31) + 19 + 18
4.  57 + (-48) + 12- 64

Solution:

1. 8 + 5 + (-3) + (-5) + 1
=8 + 5 + -3+ -5 +1
Here + sign is multiplied by -. The result is -.
=8+5-3-5+1
=13-3-5+1
=6
Therefore, the value of 8 + 5 + (-3) + (-5) + 1 is 6.
2. 23 + 35+ (-10) – 46
=23 + 35 +-10 -46
Here + sign is multiplied by -. The result is -.
=58-10-46
=58-56
=2
Therefore, the value of 23 + 35+ (-10) – 46 is 2.
3. (-15) + (-31) + 19 + 18
=-15+ -31+19+18
Here + sign is multiplied by -. The result is -.
=-46 + 19 + 18
=-46 + 37
=-9
Therefore, the value of (-15) + (-31) + 19 + 18 is -9.
4. 57 + (-48) + 12- 64
Here + sign is multiplied by -. The result is -.
=57-48+12-64
=69-112
=-43
Therefore, the value of 57 + (-48) + 12- 64 is -43.

IV. Add the following numbers
1. (+315) + (+ 255)
2. (+315) + (- 255)
3. (-315) + (+ 255)
4. (-315) + (- 255)

Solution:

1. Here both the numbers are positive numbers.
Add the given numbers.
=+315 + +255
=570
2. Here one number is positive and the other number is negative.
So subtract the numbers.
=+315 + – 255
=+315 -255
Here the largest number is 315 and the sign is positive. So the result will also be positive.
=60
3. (-315) + (+255)
Here one number is negative and the other number is positive.
So subtract the numbers.
=-315+255
Here the largest number is 315 and the sign is negative. So the result will also be negative.
=-60
4. Here both the numbers are negative numbers.
Add the numbers and the result is negative.
=-315-255
=-570
