Follow the below process to find 3-Digit Addition with Carry-over. We have given clear steps to helps you to learn the addition of 3-Digits with Carry-over.

(i) Note down the given numbers.
(ii) Firstly, add digits of one’s place. If you get a carry, then forward it to ten’s place.
(iii) Again add the ten’s place digits. Then, add the ten’s place number with the carry.
(iv) If you get a carry while adding ten’s place digits, then forward that carry to the hundred’s place digits.
(v) Add hundred’s place digits. Then, add the hundred’s place number with the carry.
(vi) Note down the all digits and find the sum to get the final answer.

3 Digit Addition with Regrouping Examples

Example 1.
Add together 359, 597 and 234

Solution:
The given numbers are 359, 597, and 234.
3-Digit Addition with Carry-over Problems with answers
(i) Add digits at one’s place first i.e. 9 ones + 7 ones + 4 ones = 20 ones.
20 ones = 20 ones and 0 ones.
20 ones = 2 tens.
(ii) 2 (two) tens are carried over to ten’s side.
(iii) Now, add digits at tens place i.e., 5 tens + 9 tens + 3 tens = 17 tens.
To this sum i.e., 17 tens, the carried over 2 tens are also added.
Thus, 17 tens + 2 tens = 19 tens.
19 tens = 10 tens + 9 tens
10 tens = 1 (one) hundred
(iv) 1 (one) hundred is carried over to hundred’s side.
(v) Now, add digits at hundreds place i.e., 3 hundred + 5 hundred + 2 hundred = 10 hundred.
To this sum i.e., 10 hundred, the carried over 1 hundred are also added.
Thus, 10 hundred + 1 hundred = 11 hundred.
(vi) Therefore, the sum is 11 hundred, 9 tens, and 0 ones, i.e., 1190.

Example 2.
Add 457 and 264

Solution:
The given numbers are 457 and 264.
3-Digit Addition with Carry-over
(i) Add digits at one’s place first i.e. 7 ones + 4 ones = 11 ones.
11 ones = 10 ones and 1 one’s.
10 ones = 1 tens.
(ii) 1 (one) tens are carried over to ten’s side.
(iii) Now, add digits at tens place i.e., 5 tens + 6 tens = 11 tens.
To this sum i.e., 11 tens, the carried over 1 tens are also added.
Thus, 11 tens + 1 tens = 12 tens.
12 tens = 10 tens + 2 tens
10 tens = 1 (one) hundred
(iv) 1 (one) hundred is carried over to hundred’s side.
(v) Now, add digits at hundreds place i.e., 4 hundred + 2 hundred = 6 hundred.
To this sum i.e., 6 hundred, the carried over 1 hundred are also added.
Thus, 6 hundred + 1 hundred = 7 hundred.
(vi) Therefore, the sum is 7 hundred, 2 tens, and 1 ones, i.e., 721.

Example 3.
Add together 478, 329 and 574

Solution:
The given numbers are 478, 329, and 574.
3-Digit Addition with Carry-over Problems with solutions
(i) Add digits at one’s place first i.e. 8 ones + 9 ones + 4 ones = 21 ones.
20 ones = 20 ones and 1 one.
20 ones = 2 tens.
(ii) 2 (two) tens are carried over to ten’s side.
(iii) Now, add digits at tens place i.e., 7 tens + 2 tens + 7 tens = 16 tens.
To this sum i.e., 16 tens, the carried over 2 tens are also added.
Thus, 16 tens + 2 tens = 18 tens.
18 tens = 10 tens + 8 tens
10 tens = 1 (one) hundred
(iv) 1 (one) hundred is carried over to hundred’s side.
(v) Now, add digits at hundreds place i.e., 4 hundred + 3 hundred + 5 hundred = 12 hundred.
To this sum i.e., 12 hundred, the carried over 1 hundred are also added.
Thus, 12 hundred + 1 hundred = 13 hundred.
(vi) Therefore, the sum is 13 hundred, 8 tens, and 1 ones, i.e., 1381.

Example 4.
Add 268 and 357

Solution:
The given numbers are 268 and 357.
3-Digit Addition with Carry-over Example
(i) Add digits at one’s place first i.e. 8 ones + 7 ones = 15 ones.
15 ones = 10 ones and 5 one’s.
10 ones = 1 tens.
(ii) 1 (one) tens are carried over to ten’s side.
(iii) Now, add digits at tens place i.e., 6 tens + 5 tens = 11 tens.
(v) Now, add digits at hundreds place i.e., 2 hundred + 3 hundred = 5 hundred.
To this sum i.e., 5 hundred, the carried over 1 hundred are also added.
Thus, 5 hundred + 1 hundred = 6 hundred.
(vi) Therefore, the sum is 6 hundred, 2 tens, and 5 ones, i.e., 625.
