I. Sport Shoes are bought for Rs 4000 and Rs 75 are spent on its delivery Charges. At what price must it be sold in order to gain Rs 450?

Solution:

Sport Shoes are bought for= Rs 4000
Delivery Charges=Rs 75
Cost Price of the Sports Shoes=Rs 4000 + Rs 75
=Rs 4075
Selling Price of the shoes to gain Rs 450 = Cost Price + gain
=Rs 4075 + Rs 450
=Rs 4525
Therefore, the Shoes must be sold at Rs 4525.


II. Vijay bought a second-hand grinder for Rs. 2200 and spent Rs 300 on its repairs. He sold it for Rs. 3000. what is the profit or loss percentage?

Solution:

Given,
Vijay bought a second-hand grinder for= Rs. 2200
He spent on it repairs=Rs 300
The total cost price of the grinder=Rs 2200 + Rs 300
=Rs 2500
Selling Price of the Grinder=Rs 3000
Here Selling Price is greater than the Cost Price of the Grinder.
So Profit is gained.
Profit=Selling Price – Cost Price
=Rs 3000 – Rs 2500
=Rs 500
Profit Percent=Profit/C.P × 100
=500/2500 × 100
=20
Hence, the Profit percentage is 20%.


III. A shopkeeper buys a washing Machine for Rs 5400 and spends Rs 600 on its repairs. If he sells the repaired Washing Machine for Rs 5700, find:
(i) his profit or loss
(ii) his profit or loss as a percent

Solution:

A shopkeeper buys a washing Machine for =Rs 5400
He spends on its repairs= Rs 600
The total cost of the Washing Machine=Rs 5400 + Rs 600
=Rs 6000
Selling Price of the washing Machine=Rs 57000.
Here Selling Price is lesser than the Cost Price of the washing machine. So Loss occurs.
Loss=Cost Price – Selling Price
=Rs 6000 – Rs 5700
=Rs 300
Loss Percent=Loss/C.P × 100
=300/6000 × 100
=5
Hence, the Profit percentage is 5%.


IV. Pankaj bought an old scooter for Rs.18000 and spent Rs.1200 on its repairs. He wants to sell it to make a profit of 20%. For how much should he sell the scooter?

Solution:

Given,
Pankaj bought an old scooter= Rs.18000
Pankaj spent  on its repairs=Rs 1200
Total Cost Price=Rs 18000 + Rs 1200
=Rs 19200
Profit%=20%
Profit%=SP – CP/CP × 100
20% =SP – CP/CP × 100
Sp=CP + Cp × 20/100
=CP + CP × 0.2
= CP(1.2)
=19200(1.2)
= Rs 23040
Hence, Pankaj should sell the scooter at Rs 23040.


V. An old mobile is bought for Rs 2500 and Rs 700 is spent on repairs. If the repaired mobile is sold for Rs 4000; find:
(i) the profit or the loss made on selling the mobile.
(ii) the profit or the loss as percent on the whole.

Solution:

Given,
An old mobile is bought for =Rs 2500
The money spent on repairs=Rs 700
Total Cost Price of the mobile=Rs 2500 + Rs 700
=Rs 3200
Selling Price of the mobile=Rs 4000
Selling Price is greater than Cost Price. So profit occurs.
Profit=SellingPrice – CostPrice
=4000 – 3200
= Rs 800
Profit%=Profit/CP × 100
=800/3200 × 100
=25
Hence, the Profit Percentage is 25%.


VI. A man bought a bicycle for Rs 2500. He spent Rs 500 on repairs. He sold the bicycle for Rs 3200. Find his gain percent?

Solution:

Given,
A man bought a bicycle for =Rs 2500
He spent on repairs=Rs 500
Total Cost Price of the bicycle=Rs 3000
Selling Price of the bicycle=Rs 3200
Selling Price is greater than Cost Price. So Profit is gained.
Profit=Selling Price – Cost Price
=Rs 3200 – 3000
=Rs 200
Profit%=Profit/CP × 100
=200/3000 × 100
= 6%
Therefore, By selling the bicycle the Profit is 6%.


VII. Vijay, a shopkeeper in Vizag, buys some goods for Rs 20,560 from Hyderabad and spends Rs 350 on his traveling and transportations of the goods purchased. If in Vizag, he is able to sell all these goods for 18700; find the loss suffered by Vijay and express it as a percent?

Solution:

Given,
goods are bought for=Rs 20,560
Vijay spends on traveling and transportation=Rs 350
Total cost Price of goods=Rs 20560 + Rs 350
=Rs 20910
Selling Price of all the goods=Rs 18700
Here selling Price is less than the cost price. So loss occurs.
Loss= Cost Price – Selling Price
=Rs 20910 – Rs 18700
=Rs 2210
Loss%=Loss/CP × 100
= 2210/20910 × 100
=10%
Hence, the loss suffered by Vijay is 10%.


VIII. Bhaskar bought a Table for Rs 1500 and spent Rs 500 on its transportation. At what price should he sell the article to gain 16%?

Solution:

Given,
Bhaskar bought an article for =Rs 1500
He spent on its transportation=Rs 500
Total Cost Price of the article= Rs 1500 + Rs 500
=Rs 2000
Profit=16%
Profit%=SP – CP/CP × 100
16=SP – CP/Cp × 100
SP=CP +  0.16 CP
SP=CP(1.16)
=2000(1.16)
=Rs 2320
Hence, the Selling Price of the table is Rs 2320.
