Solution:

Speed = 15 m/sec
Time taken = 5 minutes
As the time is in minutes unit convert the speed as meters per minute
Speed = 15 x \(\frac { 1 }{ 60 } \) = 0.25 m/minutes
Distance covered = Speed x Time
= 0.25 m/minutes x 5 minutes
= 1.25 meters
Therefore, Riya covers 1.25 meters in 5 minutes.


Example 4:
An express bus takes 30 hours to travel a distance of 1800 km. Another bus travels at a speed which is 40 km per hour less than the first bus. How long it will take to travel the same distance by the second bus.

Solution:

Speed of the first bus = \(\frac { 1800 }{ 30 } \) = 60 km/hr
Speed of the second bus = 60 – 40 = 20 km/hr
The time taken by the second bus to travel 1800 kilometres is
Time = \(\frac { 1800 }{ 20 } \)
= 90 hr
Therefore, It will take 90 hours to travel the distance of 1800 kilometers by the second bus.

A man drives at a speed of 50 meters per 2 seconds. What is the distance covered in 5 hours?

Solution:

The speed of the man = \(\frac { 50 }{ 2 } \)
= 25 m/sec
The time is given in hours. So, express the speed as km/hr
Speed = 25 x \(\frac { 1/1000 }{ 1/3600 } \)
= \(\frac { 25 x 3600 }{ 1000 } \)
= \(\frac { 90,000 }{ 1000 } \)
= 90 km/hr
The distance covered in 5 hours is
