Find the Product using Multiplication Property

Find the Product using Multiplication Property | How to find the Product using Suitable Properties of Multiplication?

The arithmetic operations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are the basics of mathematics. Everyone should learn to perform these arithmetic operations. Here, we are discussing the steps to calculate the product of numbers using the multiplication property. Get the simple steps to find the product of two numbers with multiplication property and example questions on those in the below sections.

How to Find the Product using Multiplication Property?

Multiplication property is nothing but multiplying the numbers. It includes the commutative property of multiplication, associative property of multiplication, multiplication property of zero, and identity property of multiplication. Check the complete details of each of the properties in the following segments.

1. Commutative Property of Multiplication or Order Property
This property states that, if you change the order of multiplying numbers even though it will not show the effect on the result. The answer of the product of numbers is the same irrespective of the order of the numbers.
Example:
5 x 4 = 20 or 4 x 5 = 20
6 x 4 = 24 or 4 x 6 = 24

2. Identity property of Multiplication or Multiplication Property of 1
This property states that the product of any number and one is the number itself.
Example:
14 x 1 = 14
1 x 8 = 8

3. Associative Property of Multiplication
It is also similar to the commutative property but it deals with the three numbers. The property states that the product of 3 numbers remains the same irrespective of the order of the numbers.
Example:
5 x (4 x 3) = 5 x 12 = 60
4 x (5 x 3) = 4 x 15 = 60
3 x (5 x 4) = 3 x 20 = 60

4. Multiplication property of zero
This property states that the product of any number and zero is zero.
Example:
58 x 0 = 0
0 x 25 =0

So, candidates have to follow these properties while solving the product of numbers using multiplication property to get the result easily and quickly.

Finding the Product Using Multiplication Property Examples

Example 1:
Find the product of the following numbers?
(i) 1 x 81
(ii) 56 x 78
(iii) 74 x (8 x 0)

Solution:
(i)
As per the Identity property of Multiplication, 1 x 81 = 81
(ii)
Find the Product using Multiplication Property 1
56 x 78 = 4368
(iii) According to the multiplication property of zero, 8 x 0 = 0
So, 74 x (8 x 0) = 74 x 0 = 0
74 x (8 x 0) = 0

Example 2:
Solve the product of following numbers.
(a) 4 x 15
(b) 71 x 2

Solution:
(a)
4 x 15 is nothing but adding 4, 15 times or adding 15, 4 times
4 x 15 = 15 x 4 = 60
therefore, 4 x 15 = 60
(b)
71 x 2 = 142

Example 3:
Find the product of two or three numbers using the multiplication property.
(i) 9 x 8
(ii) 1 x 16
(iii) 5 x 0

Solution:
(i)
Given that,
9 x 8
Add 9, 8 times
Therefore, 9 x 8 = 72
(ii)
The multiplication property of 1 states that the product of 1 and a number is a number itself.
1 x 16 = 16
(iii)
The multiplication property of zero states that product a number and zero is zero.
5 x 0 = 0
