### Converting Units of Length Examples

**Example 1:**

**Solution:**

(6*100)cm

=600cm

Therefore, 6m is converted to 600cm.

**Example 2:**

Convert the following into centimeters.

(i) 1.15 m (ii) 55m

(i) 1.15 m

Solution:

For converting meters into centimeters, the number of meters is multiplied by 100. The result is the product cm.

(15*100)cm

=1500cm

Therefore, 15m is converted to 1500cm.

(ii) 55m

Solution:

For converting meters into centimeters, the number of meters is multiplied by 100. The result is the product cm.

(55*100)cm

=5500cm

Therefore, 55m is converted to 5500cm.

**Example 3:**

Convert 4m 15cm to centimeters

**Solution:**

First, convert 4m to centimeters and then add 15 cm.

For converting meters to centimeters multiply the number by 100.

=(4*100) cm

=400cm

Now add 15cm to 400cm.

=15+400

=415cm

Therefore 4m15cm is converted to 415cm.

Convert 12m 4cm into centimeters

To convert ‘cm’ to ‘m’ and ‘cm’ take two digits from the right are ‘cm’ and the rest have to be written in ‘m’.

i.e. First two digits from the right 08 as ‘cm’ and the rest 2 have to be written in ‘m’.

=2m 8cm

Therefore, 208cm is converted into 2m 8cm.

**Example 8:**

Convert the 5167cm into ‘m’ and ‘cm’.

**Solution:**

To convert ‘cm’ to ‘m’ and ‘cm’ take two digits from the right are ‘cm’ and the rest have to be written in ‘m’.

i.e. First two digits from the right 67 as ‘cm’ and the rest 51 have to be written in ‘m’.

=51m 67cm

Therefore, 5167cm is converted into 51m 67cm.

**Example 9:**

Convert 6 km into meters

**Solution:**

6 km

As we know that 1 km = 1000 meters so to convert kilometers into meters, the number of km is multiplied by 1000, or place three zeroes after the number of km and write meter in the place of km.

= (6 × 1000) m

= 6000 m

Therefore, 6 km is converted to 6000m.

Convert 9 km into meters

**Solution:**

= 440 cm + 5 cm

Convert the following:

(i) 1 km 284 m into meters

**Solution:**

First, convert 1 km to m and then add 284 m.

For converting km to m multiply it with 1000.

= (1 × 1000) m + 284 m

= 1000 m + 284 m

= 1284 m

Therefore, 1km284m is converted to 1284m.

(ii) 2009 m into kilometer

**Solution:**

2009 m

For converting ‘m’ to km divide the number with 1000

= (2009 ÷ 1000) km

= 2 km 009 m (Since first three digits number is taken for meter and the rest for km)

= 2 km 9 m

Therefore, 2009m is converted into 2 km 9 m.

(iii) 573 cm into decimeters

**Solution:**

573 cm

= (573 ÷ 10) dm

= 57 dm 3 cm (Since first two digits number are taken for dm and the rest for cm)

(iv) 1 m 8 dm into decimeters

**Solution:**

We know, 1 meter = 10 decimeters

1 m 8dm

= (1 × 10) dm + 8 dm

= 10 dm + 8 dm
