I. Convert the following:

(i) 10 hours to minutes
(ii) 4 hour 30 minutes to seconds
(iii) 7 days to hours
(iv) 2 weeks to days
(v) 17 days to week and days
(vi) 10:25 p.m. to 24 hour clock
(vii) convert 1800 hours to a 12-hour clock.

Solution:

(i) we know that 1 hour=60 minute.
So 10 hours=10 × 60=600 minutes.
Therefore,10 hours is 600 minutes.
(ii) We know that 1 hour=3600 seconds
4 hours= 4 × 3600=14400 seconds
30 minutes=30 × 60=1800 seconds
4 hours 30 minutes to seconds is 14400 + 1800=16200
Therefore, 4 hours 30 minutes is 16200 seconds.
(iii) 7 days to hours
We know that 1 day=24 hours.
7 days=7 × 24=168 hours.
(iv) 2 weeks to days
we know that 1 week is 7 days.
2 weeks is 14 days.
(v) we know that 1 week is 7 days.
17 days is 2 weeks 3 days.
(vi) 10:25 p.m in 24 hour clock is 22.30.
(Vii)1800 hours in 24 hours format is 18:00.
18:00 p.m is 6:00 p.m.


II. Add the following
(i) 11 minutes 20 seconds and 23 minutes 15 seconds
(ii) 25 minutes 30 seconds and 17 minutes 20 seconds
(iii) 3 hour 10 minutes 20 seconds and 5 hours 18 minutes 12 seconds
(iv) 62 years 8 months and 7 years 5 months
(v) 11 weeks 5 days and 12 weeks 2 days

Solution:

1. First add seconds. i.e. 20 + 15=35. Place 35 under the respective column.
2. Then add minutes. i.e. 11 + 23=34. Place 34 under the respective column.
Therefore, By adding 11 min 20 sec and 23 min 15 sec we get 34 min 35 seconds.
(ii)  5th grade time worksheet example 2
1. First add seconds. i.e. 30 + 20=50. Place 50 under the respective column.
2. Then add minutes. i.e. 25 + 17=42. Place 42 under the respective column.
Therefore, By adding 25 min 30 sec and 17 min 20 sec we get 42 min 50 seconds.

1. First add seconds. i.e. 20 + 12=32. Place 32 under the respective column.

III. Subtract the following
(i) 22 minutes 10 seconds from 35 minutes 44 seconds

(iv) 5 years 3 months from 17 years 7 months

1. First, Subtract seconds i.e. 44 – 10=34 seconds. Place 34 under the respective column.
2. Then subtract minutes i.e. 35-22=13 minutes. Place 13 under the respective column.
Therefore, By Subtracting 35 minutes 44 sec with 22 minutes 10 seconds we get 13 minutes 34 seconds.
(ii)  5th grade time worksheet example 7
1. First, Subtract minutes. We can not subtract 19 from 10. So borrow 1 minute from hours i.e. 60. Add 60 to 10 i.e. 60 + 10=70. Subtract 19 from 70 i.e. 70 – 19=51 seconds. Place 51 under the respective column.
2. Then subtract Hours. As we have borrowed 1 minute from hours 8 becomes 7.i.e. 7-6=1 minute. Place 1 under the respective column.

IV. Sita Started playing carroms at 4’0 clock. The game is finished at 5’0 clock. How long the duration is?

Solution:

Sita started playing caroms=4’0 clock
The game is finished at=5’0 clock
The duration is=5-4=1 hour
Therefore, the duration is 1 hour.


V. Anitha and Vanitha decided to meet at the temple. They arrived at the temple 20 minutes before the temple opened. The temple is opened at 6.30 AM. They spend 20 minutes in the temple. At what time did they arrive at the temple?

Solution:

Given,
The temple is opened at=6.30 AM
They arrived at the temple minutes before the temple opened= 20 minutes
They arrive at the temple=6.30 – 20=6.10
Therefore, they arrived at 6.10 A.M.


VI. My Mother spends 1 hour 20 minutes time in gardening in the morning and 1 hour 15 minutes in the evening. How much time does he spend time in gardening every day?

Solution:

Mother spends time  gardening in morning=1 hour 20 minutes
Mother spends time gardening in evening=1 hour 15 minutes
Time spent by the mother in gardening every day= 1 hour 20 minutes + 1 hour 15 minutes
= 2 hours 35 minutes.
Therefore, Time spent by the mother in gardening every day is 2 hours 35 minutes.


VII. A school bus stops for 120 seconds at every stop. For how many minutes does it stop?

Solution:

Given,
A school bus stops at every stop=120 seconds
Divide the seconds by 60 to get the total minutes.i.e. 120/60=2 minutes.
Therefore, the school bus stops for 2 minutes at every stop.


VIII. Srinu spends 2 hours every day for preparing the exams. How many minutes does she spend there?

Solution:

Given,
Srinu spends every day for preparing the exams=2 hours
we know that 1 hour=60 minute.
So 2 hours=2 × 60=120 minutes.
Therefore, Srinu spends 120 minutes every day.


IX. Sanjana took 30 minutes to bake the cake and 20 minutes to make the sweets. She started to bake the cake at 10 A.M. At what time did she finish preparing the sweets?

Solution:

Given,
Sanjana started to bake the cake at =10 A.M
Time taken by Sanjana to bake the cake=30 minutes
So Sanjana baked the cake=10.30 AM
Sanjana took time to make the sweets=20 minutes
Sanjana finished preparing the sweets=10.50 AM
Therefore, Sanjana prepared the sweets at 10.50 AM.


X. The meeting was scheduled for 4:00 PM in the evening. It was delayed 25 minutes. What time was the meeting scheduled?

Solution:

Given,
The meeting was scheduled for=4:00 PM
The meeting was delayed=25 minutes
The meeting was scheduled for=4:00 + 25 min = 4:25 PM.
Therefore, the meeting was scheduled for 4:25 PM.
