So 10 hours=10 × 60=600 minutes.

Therefore,10 hours is 600 minutes.

(ii) We know that 1 hour=3600 seconds

4 hours= 4 × 3600=14400 seconds

30 minutes=30 × 60=1800 seconds

4 hours 30 minutes to seconds is 14400 + 1800=16200

Therefore, 4 hours 30 minutes is 16200 seconds.

(iii) 7 days to hours

We know that 1 day=24 hours.

7 days=7 × 24=168 hours.

2 weeks is 14 days.

(v) we know that 1 week is 7 days.

17 days is 2 weeks 3 days.

(vi) 10:25 p.m in 24 hour clock is 22.30.

18:00 p.m is 6:00 p.m.

**II. Add the following
**(i) 11 minutes 20 seconds and 23 minutes 15 seconds

(ii) 25 minutes 30 seconds and 17 minutes 20 seconds

(iii) 3 hour 10 minutes 20 seconds and 5 hours 18 minutes 12 seconds

(iv) 62 years 8 months and 7 years 5 months

(v) 11 weeks 5 days and 12 weeks 2 days

**Solution:**

(i)Â Â

1. First add seconds. i.e. 20 + 15=35. Place 35 under the respective column.

2. Then add minutes. i.e. 11 + 23=34. Place 34 under the respective column.

Therefore, By adding 11 min 20 sec and 23 min 15 sec we get 34 min 35 seconds.

(ii)Â

1. First add seconds. i.e. 30 + 20=50. Place 50 under the respective column.

2. Then add minutes. i.e. 25 + 17=42. Place 42 under the respective column.

Therefore, By adding 25 min 30 sec and 17 min 20 sec we get 42 min 50 seconds.

(iii)Â

1. First add seconds. i.e. 20 + 12=32. Place 32 under the respective column.

2. Then add minutes. i.e. 10 + 18=28. Place 28 under the respective column.

3. Then add hours i.e. 3+5=8. place 8 under the respective column.

Therefore, By adding 3 H 10 Min 20 sec and 5 H 18 min 12 sec we get 8 H 28 Min 32 Seconds.

(IV)Â

1. First add months. i.e. 8 + 5=13. Place 13 under the respective column.

2. Then add years. i.e. 62 + 7=69. Place 69 under the respective column.

Therefore, By adding 62 y 8 M and 7 Y 5 M we get 69 Y 13 M.

(V)Â

1. First add days. i.e. 5 + 2=7. Place 7 under the respective column.

2. Then add weeks. i.e. 11 + 12=23. Place 23 under the respective column.

Therefore, By adding 11 W 5 D and 12 W 2 D we get 23 W 7 D.

**III. Subtract the following
**(i) 22 minutes 10 seconds from 35 minutes 44 seconds

(ii) 6 hours 19 minutes from 8 hours 10 minutes

(iii) 10 week 2 days from 19 weeks 4 day

(iv) 5 years 3 months from 17 years 7 months

**Solution:**

(i)

1. First, Subtract seconds i.e. 44 – 10=34 seconds. Place 34 under the respective column.

2. Then subtract minutes i.e. 35-22=13 minutes. Place 13 under the respective column.

Therefore, By Subtracting 35 minutes 44 sec with 22 minutes 10 seconds we get 13 minutes 34 seconds.

(ii)Â

1. First, Subtract minutes. We can not subtract 19 from 10. So borrow 1 minute from hours i.e. 60. Add 60 to 10 i.e. 60 + 10=70. Subtract 19 from 70 i.e. 70 – 19=51 seconds. Place 51 under the respective column.

2. Then subtract Hours. As we have borrowed 1 minute from hours 8 becomes 7.i.e. 7-6=1 minute. Place 1 under the respective column.

Therefore, By Subtracting 6 hours 19Â minutes from 8 hours 10 minutes we get 1 hour 51 minutes.

(iii)Â

1. First, Subtract days. i.e. 4 – 2=2. Place 2 under the respective column.

2. Then subtract Weeks. i.e. 19-10=9.Place 9 under the respective column.

Therefore, By Subtracting 10 weeks 2 days from 19 weeks 4 days we get 9 weeks 2days.

(iv)

1. First, Subtract months. i.e. 7 – 3=4. Place 4 under the respective column.

2. Then subtract Years. i.e. 17-5=12.Place 12 under the respective column.

Therefore, By Subtracting 5 years 3 months from 17years 7 months we get 12 years 4 months.
