I.  Divide the numbers given below and find the quotient and remainder
1. 84 ÷ 12

Solution: 1. write 84 as dividend and 12 as the divisor. Put 0 in the quotient and multiply 0 by 12 and write the answer 0 under 8. Draw a line under the zero and subtract zero from 8.
2. Bring down the next digit in the divisor and place it after 8. So it becomes 84.
3. We know that 84 is exactly divisible by 12. i.e. 12 × 7=84.
4. write 7 as the quotient and multiply 7 by 12and write the answer 84 under 84.  Then subtract 84 from 84 i.e. 84-84=0.
Therefore, On dividing the number 84 by 12 we get 7 as quotient and 0 as the remainder.

2. 5375 ÷ 30

Solution: 1. write 5375 as dividend and 30 as the divisor. Put 0 in the quotient and multiply 0 by 30 and write the answer 0 under 5. Draw a line under the zero and subtract zero from 5.
2. Bring down the next digit in the divisor and place it after 5. So it becomes 53.
3. We know that 53 is not exactly divisible by 30.  i.e. 30 × 1=30. we will go for it.
4. write 1 as the quotient and multiply 1 by 30 and write the answer 30 under 53.  Then subtract 30 from 53 i.e. 53-30=23.
5. Bring down the digit 7 and place it after 23. So it becomes 237.
6. We know that 30 × 7=210. We will go for it.
7. Write 7 as the quotient and multiply 7 by 30 and write the answer 210 under 237.  Then subtract 210 from 237 i.e. 237-210=27.
8. Bring down the digit 5 and place it after 27. So it becomes 275.
6. We know that 30 × 9=270. We will go for it.
Therefore, On dividing the number 5375 by 30 we get 179 as quotient and 5 as the remainder.

3. 6348 by 12

Solution: 1. write 6348 as dividend and 12 as the divisor. Put 0 in the quotient and multiply 0 by 12 and write the answer 0 under 6. Draw a line under the zero and subtract zero from 6.
2. Bring down the next digit in the divisor and place it after 6. So it becomes 63.
3. We know that 63 is not exactly divisible by 12.  i.e. 12 × 5=60. we will go for it.
4. write 5 as the quotient and multiply 5 by 12 and write the answer 60 under 63.  Then subtract 60 from 63 i.e. 63-60=3.
5. Bring down the digit 4 and place it after 3. So it becomes 34.
6. We know that 12 × 2=24. We will go for it.
7. Write 2 as the quotient and multiply 2 by 12 and write the answer 24 under 34.  Then subtract 24 from 34 i.e. 34-24=10.
8. Bring down the digit 8 and place it after10. So it becomes 108.
6. We know that 12 × 9=108. We will go for it.
Therefore, On dividing the number 6348 by 12 we get 529 as quotient and 0 as the remainder.

4. 1989 ÷ 13

Solution: 1. write 1989 as dividend and 13 as the divisor. Put 0 in the quotient and multiply 0 by 13 and write the answer 0 under 1. Draw a line under the zero and subtract zero from 1.
2. Bring down the next digit in the divisor and place it after 1. So it becomes 19.
3. We know that 19 is not exactly divisible by 13.  i.e. 13 × 1=13. we will go for it.
4. write 1 as the quotient and multiply 1 by 13 and write the answer 13 under 19.  Then subtract 13 from 19 i.e. 19-13=6.
5. Bring down the digit 8 and place it after 6. So it becomes 68.
6. We know that 12 × 5=65. We will go for it.
7. Write 5 as the quotient and multiply 5 by 12 and write the answer 65 under 68.  Then subtract 65 from 68 i.e. 68-65=3.
8. Bring down the digit 9 and place it after 3. So it becomes 39.
6. We know that 13 × 3=39. We will go for it.
Therefore, On dividing the number 1989 by 13 we get 153 as quotient and 0 as the remainder.

Solution:

Given,
Ananya has money=Rs 100
cost of each chocolate=Rs 5
No. of chocolates Ananya can buy=100/5=20
Therefore, Ananya can buy 20 chocolates.

IV. Mahesh has Rs 10000. He gave Rs 2000 to his friend and put the remaining money equally into his two bank accounts. How much money was there in each bank account?

Solution:

Given,
Mahesh has the money=Rs 10000
Mahesh gave money to his friend=2000
Remaining amount=10000 – 2000=8000
Mahesh put the remaining money equally into two bank accounts=8000/2=4000.
Therefore, Mahesh put the remaining money equally into two bank accounts is 4000.

V. Aboy has a total of 50 shirts, jeans, and purses. He has four times as many shirts as jeans. There are 10 purses. How many pairs of jeans were there?

Solution:

Given,
A boy has a total of shirts, jeans, and purses=50
A boy has four times as many shirts as jeans
No. of purses=10
Total no. of shirts and jeans=50 – 10=40
No. of jeans=40/5=8( since four times as many shirts as genes i.e. 4 + 1=5)
Therefore, there are 4 pairs of jeans.

VI. If 80 sweets are arranged equally in 4 packets. How many sweets are there in each sweet packet?

Solution:

Given,
No. of sweets have to be arranged in packets=80
No. of packets=4
No. of sweets in each packet=80/4=20
Therefore, there are 20 sweets in each packet.

VII. Ram has to pack the apples in 6 baskets. If he has 120 apples and he has to equally distribute the apples in each basket. How many apples should be pack into each basket?

Solution:

Given,
No. of apples=120
apples have to be equally distributed in each basket=120/6=20
