Question 1.
Subtract 48 from 179.
Subtraction is one of the four basic arithmetic operations in mathematics. We can observe the applications of subtraction in our everyday life in different situations.  For example, when we purchase fruits and vegetables for a certain amount of money say Rs. 200 and we have been given Rs. 500 note to the vendor. Now, the vendor returns the excess amount by performing subtraction such as 500 – 200 = 300. Then, the vendor will return Rs. 300.
Now we need to calculate the above-given question:

179 = Minuend; 48 = Subtrahend; 131 = Difference

Question 2.
Colour two factors to give the central product.

The factors of 72 are the numbers that divide 72 exactly without leaving any remainder. In other words, the factors of 72 are the numbers that are multiplied in pairs resulting in an original number 72. As the number 72 is a composite number, it has many factors other than one and the number itself. Thus the factors of 72 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36 and 72.

1 = whole number
1 = numerator
4 = denominator
To convert mixed number 1 1/4 to an improper fraction, you follow these steps:
1. Multiply the whole number by the denominator
1 × 4 = 4
2. Add the product from Step 1 to the numerator
4 + 1 = 5
3. Write the answer from Step 2 over the denominator
5/4
The mixed number 1 1/4 converted to an improper fraction is, therefore :
5/4.

Question 6.
5 × 8 + 6 • 8 = ___________
The value of 5 × 8 is 40
The value of 6 • 8  is 48
Now add the values we got and assume the answer be X.
X = 40 + 48
X = 88
Therefore, the value of X is 88.

Question 7.

Let the empty box be A.
38 + A = 43
Now get 38 to the right-hand side then the equation will be:
A = 43 – 38
A = 5
Now substitute the A value in the above equation.
38 + A = 43
38 + 5 = 43
43 = 43
LHS = RHS

Question 8.
4 yards = _________ feet
1 yard is equal to 3 feet:
1yd = 3ft
The distance d in feet(ft) is equal to the distance d in yards (yd) times 3, that conversion formula:

Mean is the average of the given numbers and is calculated by dividing the sum of given numbers by the total number of numbers.
Mean = sum of observations / total number of observations.
The total number of observations = 5
Mean = 97 + 125 + 104 + 99 + 86/5
Mean = 511/5
Mean = 102.2

Question 11.
On a trip, Sharon takes a green shirt and a redshirt. She brings a skirt and a pair of pants. List all the possible outfits Sharon can make with these clothes.
Since probability is the possibility of an outcome. Therefore, it is basically a ratio. In proper words, it can be said that probability is the ratio of the expected outcomes to the total number of outcomes.
The possible outcomes for green are a green shirt with skirt and; a green shirt with pants.
The possible outcomes for red are a red shirt with a skirt and a red shirt with pants.

Question 12.
Factor wheels show all the factors of a number. Complete the factor wheel.

By the definition of factors, we know, a factor can divide a given number into an equal number of parts. Therefore, factors of 24 are such whole numbers that can divide 24 into an equal number of parts.  These factors cannot be a fraction.
– We can easily find the factors of 24 by the division method. As we know, the factors of any number are always less than or equal to the original number. Therefore, we need to divide 24 by a smaller number or by itself. If in the division, the quotient generates is a whole number, then the divisor is the required factor.
– 1 is the factor of all natural numbers and also a number is a factor of itself. Therefore, 1 and 24 are two factors of 24. Now, 24 is an even number, thus it is divisible by 2. 24/2 = 12, so 2 is a factor. 24 is also a multiple of 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12, therefore the other factors of 24 are 3, 4, 6, 8, and 12. Hence,
24 ÷ 1 = 24
24 ÷ 2 = 12
24 ÷ 3 = 8
24 ÷ 4 = 6
24 ÷ 6 = 4
24 ÷ 8 = 3
24 ÷ 12 = 2
24 ÷ 24 = 1
